Mrs. Alexander Middle School Social Worker
Hi, I am Stephanie Alexander. I am the Middle School Social Worker at Independence. I have been at Independence for 4 years. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. For 22 years in the field I have worked in many areas providing clinical support, substance abuse counseling and behavior services in many settings including medical clinics, Social Services, Juvenile Corrections, community mental health, and family support with the USMC Quantico. I have been a school social worker for 10 years and find this is where I fit in. I love working in the school environment where each day is a new beginning. I am here to support students so they can be their best and focus on learning. Much of my focus is teaching coping skills that can be used in the classroom and using art to assist students to make those connections. I am also here to support families and connect you to community resources. I have many tools in my support bag; however, I know that connecting with community resources and other professionals helps complete the circle of services.
A little about me: I grew up a military brat moving every 2 to 3 years. My father served in the United States Air Force for 32 years. I love spending time with my blended family, and we have 6 grown children. I like to read and kayak (when I have time). I love fall weather, pumpkin spice anything and comfy sweatshirts. I practice mindfulness daily. Little inside tip- I often carry fidgets with me because I believe they are a great focus tool, and students are always "borrowing them".
